Awards Contest Now Open for Entries

The annual awards contest is now ready for submissions. EPA hosts two contests: the Awards of Excellence contest (for your publication as a whole) and the Higher Goals contest (for the individual pieces you and your team produced—writing, photography, design, etc.). Both contests open in mid November with the entry deadline in early January. The deadline for the 2019 contest has been extended to January 18, 2019, in order to give more time after the holidays to complete the entry submission process.

Entries must be from work published during the previous calendar year. Awards are announced in April during the annual EPA convention.

While winning an award is a huge encouragement to any publication staff, members often cite the value of the critiques they receive from qualified judges as the most valuable aspect of entering the contest.

In 2018, there were 1,062 entries in Higher Goals and 101 entries in the Awards of Excellence.

The EPA contest is administered through an online platform. Full instructions and all information is available at
