During the Orlando convention, EPA honored long-time member Dr. Bobby S. “Bob” Terry for his many years of service to EPA and to Christian media.

After 50 years in Christian publishing, Terry is retiring at the end of 2018. For 20 of those 50 years, he was the editor of Word & Way, the Missouri Baptist newspaper. In1995 he moved back to his native state of Alabama where he has since served as the editor of the award-winning Alabama Baptist weekly newspaper.

During his career, Terry has served in numerous volunteer leadership roles, including several decades as postal liaison for EPA and other religious press organizations. Terry also served as the executive secretary of the Association of State Baptist Publications for 25 years.

Terry has won numerous personal awards for his editorials and news writing. He holds a doctor of ministry degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Executive Director Lamar Keener, in his introduction to Terry’s award, shared an anecdote about Terry’s nomination to the board of directors in 2002.

“This was when there were two nominees and candidates had to give a speech prior to the voting,” said Keener. “After his opponent’s speech, Bob took the floor and said, ‘Right now I am too busy and the other candidate is more qualified, so please don’t vote for me, vote for her.’”

Terry was presented a certificate of lifetime honorary membership in EPA along with an engraved glass award by EPA President Eric Thomsen.
