EPA Board Names Two New Honorary Members

At the Spring 2019 board meeting, the EPA Board of Directors bestowed lifetime honorary membership to two longstanding EPA members in recognition of their decades of service to evangelical publishing and their commitment to EPA.

John Lindner, of Charlottesville, VA, has been involved in EPA since attending his first convention in the early ’80s. In the earlier years, John was the publisher and editor of Christian Mission, the flagship magazine for Christian Aid Mission. Later he founded World Christian Ministries and served as the editor for its weekly electronic newsletter. In 2009 he became the editor of ANM Magazine (then known as ANM World Missions) for Advancing Native Missions. Today he spends most of his time in book writing for ANM.

John was often accompanied at conventions by his wife, Jo Ann, who passed away in 2016.

“EPA has been my tutor, my guide, and my companion through some 38 years and counting,” said John. “When I was told that I was the newly appointed editor of a four-page newsletter, I had no previous journalistic training, except a yen to write. That newsletter became a 24-page, full-color, quarterly magazine that gained recognition in the EPA contests.”

Dr. Osborne Buchanan, Jr., of Blandon, PA, first connected with EPA when he covered the 1969 and 1970 Billy Graham Crusades in New York City for EP News Service, a weekly news service produced by EPA under the direction of EPA Executive Secretary Norm Rohrer. About the same time he was part of the editorial committee for Evangelical Missions Quarterly. Later Osborne was named director of public relations for Christar and was the editor of Eastern Challenge, which he brought into EPA membership in 1994.

For the past two decades, Osborne has been a missionary with Fellowship International Mission, where he has served in a variety of editing and writing roles. During this time he has maintained his participation in EPA as an associate member.

“I have appreciated the value and ministry that EPA has provided over the years,” said Osborne, “and I have encouraged publication editors to join in the name of their publications and writers to become associate members.”
