The Evangelical Press Association has signed on as a coalition member for an international conference dealing with publishing about crises. It will be held in Europe next year.
Terrorist attacks, displaced refugees, war, hunger, poverty and natural disasters plague the world today. Christian publishing professionals face numerous challenges as they report on the catastrophic events that affect their readers. Whether journalists are under attack personally or trying to help those who are, it can be difficult to know where to begin.
The three-and-a-half-day conference is designed for Christian writers, editors and publishers who face the challenge of reporting on catastrophic events. Participants will learn how to discover and report the truth in complex, rapidly changing situations and how to offer a biblical perspective to their readers. They will receive reliable background information on the crises about which they must write.
“This institute is coming at a critical time in history,” said MTI President Sharon Mumper. “The world is embroiled in turmoil, and it seems every nation is impacted by multiple crises. Christian magazines have a responsibility to report on complex crises accurately and with sensitivity, giving their readers the information they need to respond as Christians.”
Magazine Training International has vast experience with international conferences and training classes. Over the last 27 years, MTI has offered more than 60 conferences, courses and seminars in East/Central Europe, Asia, and North America.
“It seems almost every day we hear of crises and tragedies occurring around the world,” said EPA Executive Director Lamar Keener. “When we learned of MTI’s plans to host a Crisis Publishing Institute in Europe, it made sense that EPA should become part of their coalition. We want to come alongside them and offer whatever assistance we can with the resources EPA has.”
MTI is seeking financial sponsors and coalition partners to support their effort.
