New categories added to Higher Goals Contest

At the spring Board of Directors meeting, the EPA Board expanded one category into two and added two others to the Higher Goals contest. These should be on your radar as you plan your content the remainder of this year — as they will offer you new possibilities for entries in the 2016 contest.

The current Blog category will be divided into two categories: Best Blog (judging an entire blog website) and Best Single Blog (judging a single blog article). This category is open to digital publication members and associate members.

Best Table of Contents — For some the Table of Contents is an artful presentation skillfully designed and carefully integrated as a key component of the overall publication. For others, well, let's just say it's more of an afterthought, thrown together at the eleventh hour with the hope that the page numbers are all correct. EPA wants to recognize those who do exceptionally well in crafting this section and encourage others to step up their game to improve in this area.

Best Feature Article — Higher Goals awards recognize either editorial or design and photography but, with the exception of Single Theme or Issue, none recognizes both editorial and design as a package. Best Feature Article will judge the multi-page treatment of a single article, including editorial, photography, design and use of sidebars, if any.

Cause of the Year reminder

The 2015 Cause of the Year is International Religious Freedom. Members will be invited to enter their best work on this subject in the Cause of the Year category for the 2016 Higher Goals contest. To be eligible, the article must be published during 2015. Awards will be presented at the 2016 convention in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

The board decided there will not be a Cause of the Year for 2016.
