With the proliferation of AI tools in recent years, the EPA board has determined it was necessary to implement a policy to guide members as they choose their contest entries.
While the recently revised EPA Code of Ethics includes standards for the use of AI in publishing, the board wanted to be clear about what was expected for contest entries.
EPA Code of Ethics
EPA members are expected to abide by the EPA Code of Ethics as it relates to the use of AI, specifically Section 2.2 Design and Photography and Section 2.5 Writing.
Use of AI in Contest Entries
All contest entries are to be original works created by humans and not generated or altered by AI. Limited use of AI tools, with direct human involvement and oversight, is permitted for the development of ideas, editorial refinement, such as grammar and spelling checks, and minor stylistic enhancements of original works.
AI Acknowledgment
By submitting your entries, you are declaring that all your contest entries are original works and not generated or altered by AI, except for the limited use as outlined in the AI Policy for Contest Entries.
